Hi,
Just spent two days re-installing XP..........first some files were corrupt,
then this morning the Bios reported NTDLR was missing.
I'm wondering..........in 98 you were able to make a system restore disk. Is
this possible in XP?

No you weren't - you were able to create a boot disk, not the same thing at
all. A restore disc would have been provided by your system supplier.

The BIOS reported no such thing, because the BIOS doesn't 'know' or 'care'
about what OS is installed - it's completely 'ignorant' of any OS. That was
reported by Windows.

You say reinstalling - you didn't say whether you formatted the drive or
not. I suggest you boot from the XP CD and do so.

Incorrect. The message "NTLDR is missing" is a BIOS error message. NTLDR
(NT LOADER) is the program that, as it's name suggests, starts NT (it
calls NTDETECT.COM IIRC).

You are correct that the BIOS doesn't know anythng about OSes, it just
knows that it has to find, and run, NTLDR.
