I have IE6 on win98 client. This person had accumulated much
spyware/malware and some worms over time. I tried to fix by running full
virus scan and full pest patrol and spybot scan all with latest updates.
After several runs and cleaning the registry the system was deemed clean.
*Except IE6 which still start up with the resource protocol and some
internal dll ie: res://eagui.dll#index5777 This seems to be built into
IE6 now. I removed all the offending files and stripped the registry yet it
still comes back. Is IE dead on this machine? I have loaded firefox and
that works fine so if there is no fix can I uninstall IE6??

You can revert back to a previous version of IE by Add/Remove
programs>Microsoft IE (etc.)> restore previous version. Or you can repair
it. See more here on Un-Installing IE in W98
