Scott McDonald

I have several systems most with Windows XP SP2 or Windows Server 2003. Every single one of them now cannot access certain java written sites, I just get the error message "requires java enabled browser". I access these sites really infrequently so it's difficult to say when the problem started (two of the sites are copiers in the building, updating their configs goes through a web/java interface on the copier so they are 100% static sites). All systems have the most recent updates (which I'm quite sure a recent update broke this, they all *use to* work) and none of these systems have any goofy configs/software on them, they are all just standard WindowsXP/2003 with Office 2003 on them etc and none of the original windows settings or IE settings have been changed.

I absolutely cannot stand Netscape but I'm being forced to use it at the moment to be able to access these sites.

Any input would be appreciated.

Hi Scott :-)

Try the following and see if it helps:

How to disable and enable Java

See what version of Java your browser is using
http://www.javatester.org/
Does your browser need an UPDATE?

http://online.mcad.edu/ChecklistBrowserF02.pdf

or....

Click Start, Run and type this command
REGSVR32 JSCRIPT

or.........

Go to start/run Type in: regsvr32 softpub.dll Press Enter or click OK

or...................

Because of a court decision Microsoft will stop all Java support after 30
SEP 04 and is recommending that you use the Sun JRE:
http://www.java.com/en/download/help/win_manual.jsp

or..........

You can get the new Sun Java J2SE RunTimes or SDK here:
http://java.sun.com/downloads/index.html (all versions - select using the
dropdown)

or here: http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_automatic.jsp

Sun also offers an automatic download and install of the 1.4 Java plug-in
here: http://java.sun.com/getjava/download.html

or.........

Download the Microsoft Java VM for Windows XP here
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

Or you can download it from one of these locations:

or

or
ftp://ftp.uq.edu.au/mirror/microsoft/patches/winxp/javavm_3319_MIL_4275/MSJavx86.exe

and..........

You can test whether Java is working on your machine at the following sites:

http://www.pocoso.de/pocoso052.html
http://www.clan.lib.ri.us/clan/javatest.html (This one may be down)
http://www.fitwise.com/testjava.asp (both 1.0 and 1.1 and what's installed)
http://coglab.wadsworth.com/support/browsercheck.html
http://www.ces.clemson.edu/webct/browser_detect.html

and you can test Javascript here:
http://www.dancespots.net/browsertest.htm

Do you have the JavaScript plug-in installed?
http://java.sun.com/webapps/download/AutoDL?BundleId=9567

or...........

You might also try installing the Windows Script 5.6 for Windows 2000 and XP
if you have not already done so. The install includes a new jscript.dl

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps
