Required Audio Hardware Cannot be Found

When I try to open Windows Movie Maker I get an error message "... Movie Maker
cannot be used because the required audio hardware cannot be found ...".
However Movie Maker was working fine just a month ago or so - so I'm not sure
why it isn't working now.

(FYI - I am also having a problem (perhaps related) trying to open .avi
files using
Real Player as I get an error message to the effect "... There is no software
update available from Real to support this content. video/x-pn-jpeg-plugin.")

I had version 1.0 (?) that came with my PC and was able to use WMM. I loaded
the
Serv Pack 2 and now I get the error message "Required Audio Hardware Cannot
Be Found". What do I do now?

I have the same problem with WMM 2. I had to open the program in Safe Mode to
get the error message.

Just wondering if anyone can to address this issue. I sure would like to use
this program.

Thanks,
djwoo
