Request to show text and image, whether in-line or not

Several months ago, I've written a post asking
Microsoft to correct Outlook's bug which prevents it from
displaying attached images. But now I would like to
extend this demand to even simple text.

With all the virus / worms flowing around the net
nowadays, more and more ISP's are adding anti-virus
softwares on their sides to scan emails. The problem is
that once an email is scan, it is changed to mark as non-
infected. But by doing so, a simple text email would
become an empty mail with attached text file when viewed
in Outlook. I can tell you, this is becoming a real PAIN
IN THE ASS !!!

Before, I just needed to single click to read an
email. Now, I have to click once on the mail to get to
it, double-click on each attachment to read it. In other
words, I have to click at least three times for every mail.

If I know how to do, I would like to begin a petition
to ask Microsoft to correct this ridiculous bug.

This is not a bug in Outlook. As you said your ISP scans the message and
changes it so the original message is just an attached txt-file. All this
has already happened before Outlook even touches the e-mail so how can it be
possibly an Outlook bug?

That non in-line pictures aren't displayed at the bottom of the e-mail but
as an attachment is also the way it should be; you receive the message as it
was send so with ATTACHED pictures. Not automatically opening attachments is
a huge security increase and it also makes displaying messages faster.

So why blame Microsoft for something your ISP does with your e-mail and why
blame Microsoft for displaying the message like the sender intended???

I'm afraid you've misunderstood. The bug I'm talking about is, of
course, related to the subject of this very thread. In other words, the
fact that Outlook doesn't display images and texts.

No, that's not the way it should be. When I posted a similar message
several months ago, another user had replied. He had pointed out that
Outlook isn't compliant to standard with reference to a RFC (I can't
remember the number). Well, the thread is too old that I can't find it
back.

What you say is completely false. I can give you at least two
counter-examples:
1) in HTML format, any attached image is displayed.
2) How come Outlook Express displays any attached image, no matter if
the mail is plain text or HTML?

OTOH, your reasoning is also wrong. OPENing a file is different from
RUNning a file. Opening couldn't and shouldn't be a security issue.
But unfortunately, Microsoft engineers don't seem to understand the
differences between open a file and execute it.

Because it's thanks to Microsoft brilliant idea of running every
executable files in emails that the dream of having email virus come
true. Luckily, we still have the choice of using other softwares......
