If price was no object, what is the _leading_ anti-virus product (for home
users) concerning effectiveness, stability and support?

Look wanderer, you wanna start a war here? It's typically the worst kind of
question you can ask here. People are gonna recommend VirusWarLord, others
VirusTerminus or Virus Flusher, some recommend VirusFoetsie,
VirusScheerJeWeg!, or VirusNetWasIeErNog etc ...

So, Google a bit and find out yourself, wander on somewhere else. We're not
taking the bait, nice try though ...

Thanks. My Norton 2004 is turning out to be highly unstable, a real
nightmare. I'll keep looking for an alternative.

I'll have a little nibble at the bait and recommend NOD32. :o)

Leading? If you don't talk about the *marketing* leaders:
I'm gonna buy an F-Secure product (probably F-Secure Internet Security
2003) when my Kaspersky licence runs out. It's using two (and on WinXP
even three) scan engines, incl. the one I trust most (Kaspersky's). I
like F-Secure's user interface more than the one of KAV.

And somehow I like their cool Northern European way (they are in
Finland), compared to some others, when they publish information about
malware: no panic, no hype, just facts. And sometimes you learn more
by reading their malware descriptions, than you learn from some other
AV companies.

F-Secure Internet Security is rather expensive, but I'll buy it
anyway, maybe more than one licence (no joke: some will be an xmas or
birthday present to one or two friends or relatives of mine).

Gaby, give F-Secure Anti-Virus for Client security a try... It has
everything FSIS ahs plus e-mail scanning (in & out bound).

Personally, I'd opt for the same product I've been using for the past 5
years... F-Secure Anti-Virus. In five years I've had real problems with
it and they answered every question I've had in a timely manner.

65 Euros isn't that expensive. You get good value at that price.

Just curious....what kind of real problems, in general? If one were
interested in trying it, it's always good to know what to expect.

@#$%^&*! That'll teach me to post before proof reading... That should
have said I've had NO real problems with it! I've had few minor hiccups
with it but nothing that I would call serious.

From my experience, I can tell you what NOT to buy. AVG 7.0 from grisoft
caused me a whole lot of grief and I'm still waiting for a resolution. Till
I get satisfactory results, I have to warn other potential users not to try
it out .
