I'm using KAV Personal Pro. It works very, very well. However, I'm having
a problem creating an "exception" for mIRC. Unless I turn it "off", which I
hate to do, I can't perform any sort of DCC file transfer. I've tried
creating exceptions for mIRC, but they've been uneffective. Can anyone tell
me how to adjust/set the options in KAV to permit mIRC DCC to work without
totally disabling KAV each time??? Thanks!!!

How do you know?

Is your computer exposed to viruses on a regular and frequent basis
such that you are able to compare the effectiveness of different AV
products?

I continue to put forth the argument that unless you make it your
hobby (or profession) to coherently test different AV products in a
controlled way, that pronouncements like the above "it works very
well" are just another way of saying:

"I run an AV product on my computer and when it doesn't detect
anything for a month or a year then I feel good and the AV product
must be working, and when it does detect something then I feel good
because it detected it and therefore it must be working and so I like
it and will recommend it to others."

Well, at least it's stable. All the other current AV products I've tried
(who should remain nameless) have become highly unstable after only a couple
of days. So far, KAV hasn't given me any trouble like the others did.

So here we have it. Most people's perceptions of how good an AV
product is is based on how much trouble it gives them (or in other
cases, how pretty the interface is).

So what's the plan then? How then should the average user know what is
the best solution for them? Should we not bother to use antivirus
software at all on your premise that it's too hard to test if they're
really any use so no point in bothering? Or should all users, however
experienced or inexperienced be forced to run 500 difference AV
products, one after the other, so that they can build up a comparison
database? Come on!!!

Good points. But, if it's unstable, it's no good no matter how effective it
is. It'd be nice if a program had both, high efficiency and effectiveness,
with stability and a smoother user interface. So far, we don't have that
product. Is there any AV code writer out there who could deliver such a
product? I doubt it.

Leave it to the professionals to do unbiased comparative testing. Take any
recommendations from any other sources with a grain of salt. Virus Guy is
usually on one soapbox or another - just ignore him. It is not unusual for
a poster to ask for opinions, or voice their own opinions, on other aspects
of AV programs than just their detection rates.
