I am looking for a free program to play chess via email.

Hi Michael
I sent a e-mail with an Excel file to you
It's a simple chessboard with all the figures in the starting position
and you play
just as you would with the real thing.
click on the piece to move to where you want to go and when you capture
a piece
drop it on either side of the board.
When you want to start a new game you will have to set up manually -
just as you
would with the hands on game.

you should find the xls file on alt.comp.freeware as requested and hope
you have as much fun playing via e-mail as I did!

I know -my other name is Heath Robinson !
But I only cooked this up for a bit of fun and of course you can
improve and change to your hearts content !

Well, Ian I've tarted it up a bit and it does look a bit better.
Still under 50kb as a file.

You can play chess on itsyourturn.com - it's not exactly by email, but
it does email you when it's your turn to move.

I tried to respond to this thread before but I don't think it posted.

You can play chess by email on ItsYourTurn.com

It isn't quite by email in that play is by web page, but it emails you
every time it is your go.

There are lots of other games as well like checkers, reversi etc.
