My friend has a computer setup whereby his monitor sits on a flat
multi-togleswitch 'panel' that allows him to power up a selection of
things.

The switches are Master, Computer, Monitor, Printer, Aux1, Aux2. He
uses it to select between two computers and peripherals. Simplifies
powering-up what he wants.

I have searched Pricewatch etc but cannot find such a device. I
figure I don't know what to call the thing,

Can someone tell me? and where I can see it on the web?

Thank You

It's usually called a "Power Center". www.cyberguys.com has one for $16.
They usually are billed as "surge protectors" also. I wouldn't rely on
that feature, since they are underated, and no surge supressor on the
end of a line cord plugged into a conventional outlet can do much good.
They are circuit breaker protected. In all, one of the best dollars value
for my computer set up. Don't use any switch besides the one on an
Ink Jet printer to control it. All other devices can be plugged into
the power center. It's convenient to have one master switch to make
sure everything is turned off. One of the Aux switches is handy for
a table lamp.

PS: OK, w_tom, waiting for your comment. (I'll agree this time!) ;-)
