Anything like HHDLife (homepageware) that monitors the system + HD temperature + health? (don't need it to do anything else)

System overheated and died on my last night (just got the parts replace around an hour or so ago) so am looking for something which will allow me to keep an eye on it (can't prevent it so may aswell monitor it). Unfortunately HHDLife forces it's homepage to load each time it is run so an alternative is sought.

TIA

Hey Steve...... this is not exactly what you're looking for but it does
the job. It's a hardware upgrade from vantec, called the Nexus
multifunction panel. It installs in an empty 5 1/2 drive bay and
monitors, cpu, hdd and case temps. It also contains a fan speed control,
two usb and one firewire port. It's not a real difficult install and
if you can install a harddrive in you're machine you could handle it.
It works and looks great.

It's not freeware I know guys but I thought it might help this guy. If
anyone is offended I apologize.

Do you have a URL for it?

Hi Steven,

Unfortunately HHDLife forces it's homepage to load each time it
is run so an alternative is sought.

You do know that you can redirect web page address' via a "host"
file ? Put in the address you don't want and re-map it to eg. your own
home page.

Regards, John.

I know.... but the point is, it shouldn't be trying to force a visit in the first place so goes straight into my "not in this lifetime" bin ;o)

Not exactly what you're looking for, but it's an excellent little portable
program. (1 file Wonder) Monitors temps and health on any SMART enabled HDD,
plus does a wonderful benchmark to track performance if you wish. I rate
this program a solid "10"

Looks very interesting, BUT (big butt) how do we know the authors are trustworthy - i.e. that it is safe to run this thing? Anyone that can write such a thing could have it do all kinds of other things - like install a keystroke monitor.
I am not saying this program is malware, but a little paranoia is often good.

Same could be said for ANY program, picking on this one is a little unfair, don't you think?

Not at all because it sounds like someone had to be a pretty sharp techie to make the program (Compared to applications type stuff).

I agree with Steven, be it a sharp techie...or bored, malicious kid,
anytime we run an executable, we're trusting the file performs as
described. That's what is so cool about this ng, normally we'll read
several posts of people who have used a particular program. From the
posts, one can realize a reasonable level of trust or distrust.
Personally, I won't run any file unless I've read several good reports
from people I trust. Even that poses risks, but that comes with the
territory ;)

I hear you. That's one of the best things about this group. The people here
usually do not recommend a program they have not tried themselves and have
found to be useful and clean. I've carelessly recommended a questionable
program or 2 in my time, but quickly corrected my mistake or have been
corrected by someone who has more experience with the program.

Feel confident with HDTune. It's a very nice, clean program.
