How can I get Outlook Express v5 to automatically place email
attachments in a subdirectory of my choice?

Thanks

Hi,

Wrong group. OE5 is an older version and is not supported in WinXP (which
comes with OE6). Please repost your question in one of the many groups that
support OE5.

Besides, I am pretty sure that all you can get OE's rules to do is to move
emails with attachment to a specific OE folder (not one outside of its own
hierarchy). No way I know of to have it (any version) automatically move an
attachment to some separate directory using the tools it comes with.

OE SHOULD remember your last save directory, but there's a bug in the
routine. When you close OE, the last save location is saved to the
Registry, but the last character of the path is cut off. This makes it an
invalid path, so OE defaults to something else.

See www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm, Line 242, Set the "Save
Attachments" Default in OE. This small utility will provide a work around,
by allowing you to choose your own default location, and pad it, so that
when it gets chopped off by OE, it still resolves as a valid path. If you
find OE suddenly saving to a different location, run it again. Should be
good for about 100 openings and closings of OE.

Do you think this patch will work on W98?
