Want something very simplistic to enable people to save a JPEG to a filesize
for web use. A lot of the progs I have tried give you the ability to
compress to a percentage (or low to high quality), but I want to say
compress this image to 25K or whatever.

Paid for progs (Fireworks etc. give this).

| I don't have it loaded now, but I think this program might do as you
| require in batch conversion.

Unfortunately not - it's another of those compress from "lowest" to "best"
progs.. not to a specific max file size... (unless it's an option I can't
find)

Thx anyway

Pixia

With the Massa plugin for JPEG (not tried it on the latest version)
http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA023468/filter_e.html

Goes at it a different way, you can preview quality and file size as
you tune the compression slider.
You can also select the colour subsampling, from 4:4:4 (no reduction
in colour detail, to 4:1:1 - on many programs, this is either fixed,
or implied by the compression level, but reducing this can be a "free"
boost to compression if the image does not have fine colour detail.

Thx for all suggestions - gonna give 'em a try now.

Maybe you can try this:

http://jdmcox.com/ReducePhotoSize.zip

This can do a series of pics at a time and you can choose the quality
and thus the file size.
