I would get a Liteon instead for $38 no rebates at Newegg.

As anyone will tell you - its a known product , excellent and widely
supported by software and is widely compatible with various media.

Other drives - the cheaper ones going around are probably Benq, Top G
, BTC etc. They tend to have a poorer rep . Not sure how long
theyll last or if youll have problems with various media or software
non-support. That said - Id never buy one of these unless it was
deeply discounted . I did and have purchased one - free after rebate a
while back and was surprised to find it was far more decent than I
thought. In general it worked well though obviously I didnt test it
with all the media out there and software so the caveat still stands -
you might have huge problems with other software , media, hardware.
The burns though fine when I used it - may have more errors , I didnt
test it which may lead to failure down the road but for general use it
seemed fine.

I got a Kypermedia free after rebate deal and it turned out to be a
Benq - thats the one Im referring to.

I just got two more - the last week during the sales , one another
free after rebate Kyper again which is probably another Benq. And I
got a Magic Spin - $4.99 after rebate at Office Depot last Sunday. IT
turned out to be a Top G . Havent tested it yet.

Ive got two other Liteons - one a backup which has never been opened
which I got for $20 after rebate months ago. Id still rather have a
Liteon. I only got these other brands because they were free or close
to free.

So in general I was surprised at the general usabilty of the cheapo
off brand I tried. No guarantees about anything though. With my second
PC system it worked fine , isntalled with no fuss and worked with Nero
and some other software I use.
