REQ: Can I piggy-Back a breaker?

I want to install a breaker panel-mounted surge protector such as the
Cutler-Hammer CHSP or the Intermatic IG 1300. I only have one
double-breaker space left free and would like not to exhaust my
breaker space unless I have to. I do have a 240 breaker in the box as
well as sever 120's of course.

What would be wrong with connecting the CHSP or 1300 wires to the 240
breaker. There would be no draw by the protector would there?

Anyone help me here?

I put in two Intermatic IG 1300 recently on big remodel jobs. It does
not take up a breaker. It just hooks into any 220 breaker being used
or not.

That's what I was hoping. I was just worried about two wires being
mounted in one spot on the breaker and how that might conflict with
any codes. There would be two spots on the breaker, then, that would
each have two wires connected.

Yeah, but it doesn't put a load on the breaker, and if needed it will
actually reduce one.
