I am looking for a printer to print mostly text. Looking for something
cheap to buy and operate. Want good quality output and good speed.

I would like something rather on the small and quiet side too.
I live in the USA. Would anyone have any recommendations?

How many pages per month are you talking about here?

A few hundred? Then get an inexpensive inkjet printer. All of the models
are decent. The options and printing costs are the biggest factors
really.

A few thousand? Then perhaps a laser printer. You don't get colour but
you get very good text on plain paper and high printing volumes. Again,
any modest model will do, but initial purchase cost is higher.

You will also need to establish a price range before we can make useful
recommendations as there are dozens of models that can be described as
"cheap to buy".

I used to be an HP fan, but have recently switched to a Canon i850 due
to low printing costs, very easy refills (separate ink tanks that are
clear), and high output quality.

For a personal recommendation, look at the Canon i550...it might be what
you're looking for in a printer.

Probably a few hundred pages a month.

I am looking at spending under $150 for a printer.
Under $100 if I can. I looked at the Canon i550 but it seems to be hard to
find now. I am now looking at the Canon i560 printer. They seem to be
similiar.

Thanks for your recommendations.

The i560 should be better since it has 2 picoliter nozzles for finer
detail and shading. It also has direct printing from camera media, and
it seems to use the same ink tanks, although I haven't found conclusive
proof of that yet.

If the prices are similar, then the i560 is the way to go.
