Hi everyone,
I've finally upgraded from my old Dell XPS D333 to a Dimension 8400.

With that older processor (P2) and limited graphics capability I always
shied away from most 3D applications that I came across.

I'm asking what are some of the neatest (freeware) 3D apps that you have
found out there; I'd like to see what this new machine is capable of.

I've got 1g of ram with an NVIDIA Geoforce 6800 PGU.

Thanks!

Oooooh, lots to choose from. My favourites:

* POVRay: http://www.povray.org/
Raytracing environment. Scenes are built using the SDL (Scene
Description Language), unlike other 3D modellers. Very high quality
tracing, look at the Hall Of Fame on the homepage for some unbelievable
images done with POVRay.

* Moray: http://www.stmuc.com/moray/
A wireframe modeller that is often used in combination with POVRay.

* Blender3D: http://www.blender3d.org/
3D modeller. The user interface can be a bit confusing at first, but
once you get the hang of it it all makes sense and improves workflow
quite a bit. Can export to POVRay.

* Wings3D: http://www.wings3d.com/
Another 3D modeller, user interface is a tad more accessible than
Blender. Don't know about POVRAY export, may be possible.

Regards,
Wald

Apparently it does (has a link to a POVRay export plugin on the left of the page)

Povray 3.5 export plug-in
Download it from KayosIII's Wings Plugin Page.

Clacos' plug-ins
Download the plug-ins from Clacos Wings page.
