We have a complex medical billing application that prints to a standard
medical HCFA billing form. As there is no way to build the form into the
report, we are limited to having to realign all controls to individual
printers, so that fields print roughly in the required boxes. This is time
consuming and frustrating.

Is there any alternative approach to alignment other than going into report
design view and spending tons of time?

Are there any 3rd party products that would simplify this?

Have you considered a Word merge?
Does your realignment just involve shifting all controls to the left 20
pixels and down 35 pixels depending on the printer?
Have you tried printing to PDF and then printing the PDF file on various
printers?

Duane. Not sure what happened to my reply. Here it is again:

Thanks for helping. Unfortunately, it seems that at least our printers do
not simply vary in page placement of the entire image in one direction.
Placement or distribution is not uniform and seems to vary with page
position.

We do use pdf's to transfer some reports for remote printing to preprinted
forms. I've found that our different hp printers distribute the pdf content
differently. But there is a larger issue that this could not resolve
anyway.

The application has come along so well that we now have potential customers
for it. We cannot require Acrobat and I just don't think we can duplicate a
Medisoft type form alignment utility. I cannot envision selling an app that
requires endusers to mess with our complex report in Access's design view.

I'm almost tempted to include an hp 1012 printer with each copy of the app
just to get around this.

I'm sorry but I don't know of alternatives. I have created a number of
reports in the past that were close enough to "printed forms" that they were
accepted by various agencies.
