I have seen many people mentioning that their Reports in BCM V2 don't
work, giving error messages like "The Report could not be generated.
Please try again".

If you have a machine in this situation, please reply to this thread. I
would like to get more data about this problem.

There are some MS people checking for customer feedback and problems in
this list, and I am one of them. :-)

Thx in advance,

I have the same problem with BCM - solution?

The error is that I do not receive a Report.
(not any one of the Reports.)
When I click to receive a Report (e.g. Accounts) there is then some activity
on the harddisk.

Instead I receive after approx. 10 seconds a little grey error box that
tells me:
"Report could not be generated. Please try again" OK

So my problem is that I do not receive a Report.

The BCM reports gave the error on my computer when BCM V2 was installed, and
the Desktobp SQL Server icon in the Tray said "disconnected". I followed
"Badmash" instructions (in the response to my post of 13 July) through step 6
and the reports are working again, though the Desktobp SQL Server icon in the
Tray still says "disconnected".

I have managed to solve the problem by downloading the update a second time
and reinstalling the update. The Reports can now be generated.

Are you still in a broken state in regards to reporting? If so, would you
be willing to let me contact you by phone? We need to see a machine in this
state to find the root cause why this is happening. I know that a reinstall
usually fixes the problem, but we'd like to prevent this from happening so a
reinstall isn't necessary.

Please let me know....

The icon in the tray is pointing to another SQL server instance, and
not BCM's.

The comment that I would add is that I did not have to uninstall anything,
just reinstall by using the exploded out temp directory as my starting point.
Afterwards everything was fine:

1. Download Update
2. Open update to temp dir by doing bcmvsupd.exe /t:c:\bcmtemp /c
3. Run c:\bcmtemp\bcmv2.exe -? to extract files to c:\"temporary file
structure whatever"
4. With MSI dialog box still on screen, make copy of c:\"temp file structure
whatever" to my c:\bcmtemp directory by doing xcopy *.* /s/e/v c:\bcmtemp
5. Run setup from c:\bcmtemp

All was smooth afterward. But note - I did not uninstall or reboot or
remove msde to get this result. I just made sure I was installing from the
temp source directory that the application creates after already having
installed once. No backup and restore was involved either.

Hi all,

Wish I had seen this post before fixing the problem!
Initially I had BCM version 1 and all was well.
Installing the Visual Basic Express Beta broke BCM completely! so that
had to be uninstalled. Suspect it was the sql bit doing the breaking.
The for some unkonw reason in BCM version 1 the reports would run but
you could not save them! A JIT error was coming up about the feature
not bein implemented. Reports had saved in the past.
To attempt to fix this I installed the BCM version 2 update (as am
using Office Professional 2003) in the hope it would aleviate the 'save
report' problem.
Instead I got the totally broken report symptom and the usual error
message that 'The report could not be run. Please try again.'

To fix this I went to Add/Remove programs
On Outlook 2003 with BCM update clicked on Change
Then select re-install
The run the unpack of the BCM v2 update to regenerate the setup files.
Point the reinstaller at the temp directory
Let it do its stuff
Reports working again.

Sorry that this is probably all old ground but thought I would chip it
in just in case it helps someone else.

Ok...I am obviously not as computer savy as the rest of you. I am
having problems creating reports. Am I correct that i just need to
download the update and reinstall?

Is there anything I need to be concerned about in doing this? I will
obviously back-up data before I proceed.

Thanks and I apologize for being so basic.

Hi There,

I too am having a problem with running reports... they don't run... not any
of them. The machine effected is a Laptop, Centrino 1.5ghz Processor, 512mb
mem. Running Windows Pro SP2, Office 2003 with BCM.

You say that a reinstall may fix the problem... is that a reinstall of the
Update, BCM, Outlook or the complete Office package? and will installing the
update again cause the same problems as before?

We are willing to help as much as possible in return to getting this error
fixed!

Kind Regards,

Hi Russell,

I believe that by reading the thread above, the problem should be
solved if you reinstall the BCM V2 Update the second time.

Hope that helps,

John
