Are you talking about the Microsoft Product Support's Reporting Tool
(mpsreports)? They create a folder called mpsreports under the
%systemroot% folder (in 2000 this is winnt, in 2003 this is windows). For
example, the one for Directory Services creates the following structure:
%systemroot%\mpsreports\dirsvc\logs\cab and dumps the resulting file into
the cab folder.
At the level beneath the specialty tool (in the above example, Dirsvc is
for the directory services specialty) there are two folders - bin and logs.
The bin folder contains the support tools contained in the reporting tool
and the logs folder holds the results of the tests that are run. When the
tests are complete, it zips the contents of the log file into a cabinet
file and dumps it into the cab folder.
The readme.txt file for the tool explains this in the sections "additional
information" and "what does it do?".
