I recently switched from Windows 98 to XP professional.
I had (have) Access databases that were created in Access
2000. With the XP Professional came Access 2002. When I
open the database and try to open a report (from the
switchboard), I get an error message indicating that the
command could not be executed. If I go to the reports
button on the toolbar, and try to open a report from
there, another error message appears indicating that
there was a problem retreiving printer information for
the report, and the report does not open. Is this an
Access 2000 to 2002 problem, or a Windows 98 to XP
Professional problem, and what can I do to fix it?

Hi,

Thank you for using the Microsoft Access Newsgroups.

Sounds like it's your printer driver. If you change your default printer
from the existing printer to the printer manufacturer "Generic" you'll
notice that you no longer receive the error message. Whenever you work
with Reports inside of Microsoft Access the program communicates with the
default printer driver (unless you specify for a particular Report to work
with a specific printer). Most likely the printer driver installed on your
computer Microsoft Access has problems in communicating with it. A lot of
Printer Manufacturers are aware of these issues and have updated their
printer drivers.

What you'll need to do is one of the following:
- Delete the existing printer and reinstalling (assuming the driver is
corrupted)

- Get an updated printer driver from your Printer Manufacturer's website
(assuming the driver needs to be updated)

- Contact you Printer Manufacturer technical support for compatiable
printer driver that can be used (assuming updated printer is also
incompatiable).

I hope this helps! If you have additional questions on this topic, please
respond back to this posting.
