Some of my DCs have quite a few items in their replication queues(playing
with quest.com's Spotlight on Active Directory). What could lead to a build
up in items for directory replication? Just would like to
tips/hints/suggestions. Gonna start reading up on replmon.exe and
repadmin.exe to see if I can figure out whats not replicated and see if I
can clean things up a bit. Thanks for the info.

Is replication happening at all?
If not, you should check your network and replication setting first.
- Check Event Viewer for any error messages.
- Use "netdiag /test:dns" to verify that DC entries had been registered
properly on your DNS.
- Use "repadmin /showreps" and ensure that replication is taking place.
(If not search the Microsoft knowledge base using the error returned)
- Use AD Sites and Services to verify your replication configurations
(specifically the NTDS setting and replication schedule)

replication is happening, just saying in perfmon that the replication queue
is quite high, even though there is barely any processor activity.

Have you checked the replication schedule?
Is the counter showing queue for prolong period of time (i.e. even after a
few replication cycle) and are your DCs very active? Queue might develop if
there are too many changes being made and the replication window is not
sufficient for all changes to be replicated within one cycle.

You can also trying forcing a replication (using repadmin or AD Sites &
Services) during off peak hour to see if it helps.

If all fail, do a repadmin /getchanges to determine the objectes that are
not replicated and see if you can make any sense out of these.

OK thanks for the tips. My DCs are kinda of active and I think i need to
rework the replication schedule for them. Should be fun.
