Can Replication work properly using a tunnel? We have one
network tunneling to a network with 192.168.x.x subnet.
The tunnel has all possible ports open. Replication seems
to be going one way only.....incoming.

Any help would be appreciated.

What kind of Tunnel? VPN I assume? What kind of VPN,..Remote-Access VPN or
Router-to-Router VPN?

Phillip,

Thanks for the reply,

Router to Router.

Ok. That is the correct type, the Remote Access VPN would never work
properly. It should work fine over that Router-to-Router VPN, however VPN is
a "slow" link and it can have a problem with that. Many people divide the
system up into "Sites" so that each Site is at the end of a slow WAN link.
Active Directory can adjust for the speed over slow links between Sites and
this is probably the most effiecient way to handle this.

If all other types of communication work over the VPN then the VPN may be
fine and the replication problem may lie elsewhere. I don't know what to
suggest other than follow normal troubleshooting for AD. As long as the VPN
is working right it is probably not the problem. Keep in mind that what you
have is the same as running AD/Replication over subnets with the only
difference being that it is running over a slower link.

Here's one article on this subject, although there appears to be a lot of
them on MS's that seem to overlap in the content.

Thanks again. I had to confirm that that was the case.
Our Comm guys have been known to give out false
information before. I will look elsewhere. The link you
posted has good information. I'll work my way through it.
