replaying movies in PowerPoint

I have inserted numerous movie clips throughout my presentation. I have set
each one up to play automatically when I view it's slide. I want to be able
to navigate among the slides back and forth and have each movie play each
time I view the slide, whether I've previously viewed the movie in its
entirety or only part of it. I have tried choosing "rewind when done
playing" under timing and/or under Edit Movie Object. Neither one gives me
the result I'm looking for. I have tried a multitude of options in different
combinations with no success. Is this just a limitation of PowerPoint, or is
there a way to configure a movie object to replay like I want it to?

When you leave a slide, PowerPoint marks all animations (including playing
of media) as complete. When you go back to the slide all animations have
"finished" and do not play again. To work around this change your
navigation to go to the slide BEFORE the slide containing the media. If you
do not want to show the previous slide, insert another slide between it and
the one containing the media, set it to advance automatically after "0"
seconds so that it moves immediately to the slide with the media. As you
have now "entered" the slide in the normal manner it will replay the
animations/media.

Yes, that does help. I had started that way in the beginning (before I
discovered the problem of my animations not replaying). But when the
presentation moved to the hyperlinked slide, I would see a slight delay in
the transition...a black screen would appear in between slides, so the
transition wasn't smooth. Is there something I can do about that?
