Replacing SRV records after 'accidental' deletion.

We seem to have managed to delete all our SRV records
probably by correcting the forward lookupp zone record in
the past.

I have a netlogon.dns file on one of the doamin servers
which was never setup for dns so I think I have a list of
the records which ought to exist for our domain. However
when using Add Other records in the DNS admion console I
do not appear to be able to add all the information.

Is there a cookery book receipe for setting up these DNS
records? All I can find in Windows Help and my MCSE
notes are references to the SRV records no instructions
for creating them if the automatic setup of DNS for a new
server on a new domain cannot be used.

Are there any knowledge base articles which might help and
if so how can i define a search to find them?

If DNS registration was working correctly before then all you should have to
do is restart the netlogon service on the domain controller that has the
missing records. When the netlogon service starts it will automatically
register the required records on its primary DNS. Also run
"IPCONFIG/REGISTERDNS" from a CMD prompt to register the A records. If you
do this on each DC that does not have any SRV records then manually creating
the records should not be necessary.

Just reset your DNS (dynamic, DC NIC pointing at it)
and restart NetLogon on EACH DC.

Netlogon is the service that registers the srv records.

If restaring the netlogon service doesn't work, then there's another issue
going on. If you can post an ipconfig /all of the server and let us know
what your AD domain name is, we can better assist.

Here is a full result from IPCONFIG /ALL on our PDC with
the missing svr records in its DNS server. I have tried
Net Stopping the netlogon service and then restarting it
with no result. Any other suggestions would be welcomed.

How do the service records in this relate to those we need
to create? V+Do they need to exist as shown or in the
much more limited for that the new record tool in the DNS
server admin console appears to crreate.

If someone could be really kind and mail me a screenshot
of their DNS mangement console showing the SRV records
that would be nice as I'd then know what I was looking
for....

Here is a full result from IPCONFIG /ALL on our PDC with
the missing svr records in its DNS server. I have tried

Three things that immediately come to mind:

I assume you mean "DC" -- in Win2000+ there is no true PDC
(one is the PDC emulator but it is confusing to refer to it as "The PDC.")

If the DNS server dynamic, or part of a set (secondary to a primary
it can reach) which is dynamic?

For the time being, change the DC NIC to point to the ACTUAL
dynamic server (primary) in the set.

Third thing: You seem to have a DYNAMIC DNS server zone
on a PUBLIC address which implies you might be exposing a dynamic
server on the Internet OR that you don't have it set to be dynamic.

On your DNS server, 200.128.1.8, are Dynamic updates set to at least Yes?

Here's some links. There maybe screenshots in the. www.microsoft.com/dns is
the main link. www.reskit.net/DNS is another good link.
