Hi

We have a Win2003 SBS server running for our local domain (only DC,
DNS,DHCP, no Exchange). Now we want to replace this SBS2003 with a Win2003
Standard server.
Is it possible to install a new Win2003 Standard server into existing
domain, promote it to DC, and then transfer all roles from SBS to Win2003
Standard and 'de-mount' and shut-down SBS2003 server? Will this work, or are
there other ways to achieve this?
Regards,
Miha

Obtain a Windows Small Business Server 2003 Transition Pack if it will be for
an existing domain.

Hi Anton,
As far as I see, we need to buy SBS 2003 Transition Pack, but it is quite
expensive. Are there any other options to move to Win2003 Standard without
any extra licencing and to obtain existing domain (we don't have licence for
SBS2003, but we have bought licences for Win2003 Standard + CAL's)?

Thanks again
Miha

Hi Miha,

There is no need for you to use the Transition pack, it is just one of the
options. The document describes in details what has to be done and
unfortunately there is a lot of reading but take some time and study it
thoroughly.

Hi Miha,

Yes, your plan should be fine.

If you can't transfer the roles (SBS may put up a fight), disconnect the SBS
and sieze them.
