My Ram card with bad in my Dell Notebook. I decided to upgrade from 512 mb
to 1 gig of RAM. This local computer shop ordered my new memory for me.
However, it came in the fashion on 2 - 512 mb ram cards. I installed them as
they directed me to. However, once i restarted my system, it only recognized
512 mb of ram in my system information. Does anyone have any suggestions on
how to fix this problem. Thanks.

What is the model number of your Dell Notebook?

One thing to check. Use Start - Run - MSCONFIG, go to the BOOT.INI
tab, and click on the Advanced Options button.

Make sure the checkbox for the /MAXMEM= line is clear and that there
is no value in the data box for that line.

Good luck

It happened to me.

One stick was not fully home. Remove and re-install the sticks.

Might be a bad RAM stick, or might be a bad RAM slot. You can find out by
inserting each RAM stick one at a time in each slot. While you're at it,
try both RAM sticks both ways to see if the MB prefers one RAM in one slot;
any order that gives you the full 1GB and works properly.

Yeah, I know, I suggested lots of testing. But that may take less time than
hauling the PC back to the shop.
