I am trying to fix one pc. When the pc is turn on, it seem like it is running but screen is black. I can't even troubleshoot because there is no video. I changed video card (doesn't have onboard video), Did CMOS clear, Did jumper setting, unplug everything and reset everything and no success. Finally I tried one last move. I am not sure if my this move is right or wrong.

This broken pc has amd processor and is socket t462. I have another pc (working pc) that is amd socket t462 processor. I use the processor from working pc on bad pc. and the bad pc processor on working pc. At this time both pc didn't work. It ran with no beep but no video.

My question is, is it ok to switch the processor the way I did? If it is ok then why didn't at leat one pc worked?

Thanks in advance guys.

It sounds as if the first PC you worked on has both a faulty processor and motherboard. It happens.

Unless you did something wrong swapping the cpu's over, of course. You did use some thermal paste?

Thanks for the reply. Yes I did add thermal paste. My guess was same thing. I was going to declare the motherboard bad at first but when I use the bad pc processor on good pc and it didn't work, I thought the processor is bad too. Oh well.
by the way if the processor or motherboard was good, replacing the processor (if the socket type is same on both pc) should work, right?

Cpu's and mobo's of the same socket type will usually work with each other . It is always worth checking out at the mobo's manufacturers home site to check out cpu compatability though . Here is an example ,

http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=A7V133

This shows the cpu's that are compatible with ASUS A7V133 mobo .
