Make yourself aware of anti-static handling procedures.. remove all cables
and drives to give yourself more room to install the motherboard.. after
removing the P4 board, ensure that you have enough of the small brass
spacers to support your new motherboard properly at each mounting hole.. do
NOT forget to install the new backplate.. if you have to use major force at
any point, something is wrong.. stop and recheck.. install procressor,
heatsink and memory.. connect the case wiring to the appropriate pins on the
board.. install the video card, then follow up with drives and cables.. the
last thing to be connected should be the cable(s) that runs from the power
supply to the board.. connect the computer to monitor, mouse, and keyboard..
power up the computer and ascertain that the power and HDD lights are
working.. if not, power off and turn the connectors around on the pins to
face the other way.. your computer should now boot up.. go into bios and
check that the date and time is correct, and that all installed drives are
recognized.. exit bios, saving as you go..
You will now have to do a 'repair' installation.. go to this site to learn
how to do the repair install..
