Replacing in whole workbook

I am using excel 2007 when I try to find and replace in the workbook it asks
me for a file name and no matter what I do it keeps asking me and does
nothing.
The workbook has 6500 items I need to place the same information. I would
hate to have to do each one separately.
Is there a way to do it. I checked on the Internet and it seems that there
is software out there that will do what I want but do not want to have to
pay for it where I am only going to use it once a month.

I tired to select all sheets and got the same results. I want to find "-07-"
and replace it with "-08-" I am also hoping it would replace it in sheet
names also but that I can deal with if not.
The formulas are in the date format dd-mm-.
I do have other workbooks with the same information but only want to change
the active workbook.

It sounds like your replace created links to other workbooks--and those
workbooks (or worksheets within those workbooks) don't exist.

The only way I know to stop excel when this happens to me is to kill it
(ctrl-shift-escape to see the task manager and killing the application (or
process)).

The way I stop myself from doing this is to be careful when I select the
range--either make it smaller and test my edit|replace (or xl2007's
equivalent)--or make sure that range doesn't include cells that have
formulas/link that will break when I make the change.

Assuming your dates are actually dates then try 07 replace 08 withOUT your
dashes.
