Have a small office and I need to replace my HP990cse cause it's making
terrible grinding and crashing noises and stopping mid-print.

I particularly need the duplexing attachment and driver, so what's a good
replacement model?

The DeskJet 995 is like the 990 but has Bluetooth in addition to the other
interfaces. The advantage of this is that you can use the same 45 and #78
cartridges you may already have. See:

for details

If supplies compatibility is not a large factor for you then take a look at the
Business Inkjet 1200 series printers. Starting at $199, these offer a built in
duplexer, separate ink tanks with *large* cartridges and some of the models
have dual trays and networking capabilities. See:

for details.

As for the DeskJet 990, you might try cleaning the encoder strip as shown at
the following:

Thanks. Does the model with the large individual tanks offer the possibility
of re-filling?
I have piles of refilled 45/87 carts here, so would probly want to stay with
that for now.

Oh, and will the duplexing unit from the 990 fit the 995?

The printers are identical mechanically. The only difference is the
additon of Bluetooth. The printer is roughly US$250.

The duplexer will fit many of the 5xxx series, although these use
different cartridges. I have a PSC2410 (same engine as 5xxx series, but
also has scanner, fax and card readers) and am using the duplexer from my
previous DeskJet 970.

You may also want to consider the DeskJet 6122, which is still based on
the 45/78 print engine. It's only about $180. It's pretty much an exact
replacement. The 6127 is the same, but with Ethernet built-in for about
$250. Both come with the duplexer.

Yes, the duplexer for the DeskJet 990 will work with the DeskJet 995.
