Ok so I am planning to switch my 6gb hard drive for a
faster 30gb hard drive and I will install and run windows
xp on my 30gb formatting the 6gb and saving it if my 30
gb brakes. I am reading microsoft.com about the
reactivation and is seems that I will need to reactive my
xp after the install. This is free right because all I
am changing is the hard drive. I just know that the
small changes they say are a cdrom or sound card, but is
reactivating just pressing the activation button when it
asks me too? And if there is a problem like it say that
I changed the computer too much do I need to buy a new
code, how much, or do I need to call and explain that it
is a new hard drive only and they let the activation
pass. Also are we only allowed to call twice before we
are charged, I think this kind of call needs to be free I
mean what if my hard drive just broke and I needed a new
one. And I does it record windows update down loads
because I need to install the new security things to stay
on the schools network, updated by Tuesday, but over the
coming weekend I will have the money to get the new hard
drive. They won't yell about downloading the updates
twice so soon, thinking I am installing it on multiple
pcs will they. I need the security fix by Tuesday when
the school does some check and then again for when the
new computer goes onto the network with the new hard
drive. I know this is a lot of questions but I seriously
can't pay for xp again.

Relax. If all you are doing at this point is changing your hard drive,
activation will probably not be required. If for some reason the hardware
changes you have made require a reactivation, it is generally automatic via
the internet if you are connected. There is no charge. If there is a problem
with internet activation, you can do it over the telephone as well.

hi this is not a problem so whenever you install the
windows you must activate it because it is prevent the
illegal using of windows XP..so if you registered your
copy of windows product you just click the activate
activate windows section in your start menu and do it with
this..
