replacing email addresses in contacts

Three of my friends recently changed email addresses. When I change the
address in my contacts file, save the file, close Outlook and reopen Outlook,
the old email address is still there. How do I get rid of it?

Where do you see it wrong? I'm curious if you see it wrong when you're
entering an address in the To field or in the contact record itself. If it's
in a type-ahead dropdown while entering a name in the To field, highlight
the address and hit Delete to remove it

It shows up wrong in the drop downs, in the contacts list, and in a couple of
distribution lists I have created. As a temporary fix, I created a "new"
name for each of these three people with the new email address. However,
that doesn't correct the major problem. I have deleted the distribution
lists, the names, the email addresses and replaced all with the new
information. The old information continues to come back to haunt me. There
must be someplace those old addresses are residing to come back like that,
but I can't figure out where.

Thanks.

The dropdown is pulling from an NK2 file. The easiest way to deal with that
is to either delete the individual entries or simply delete the entire file

Not sure why the other addresses are showing up after you've edited the
contacts.

Because Outlook will still pull from the NK2 file too until that entry is
manually deleted.
