Replacing audio

I've got some DVD with movies from family event where someone put some
stupid music background in some parts.
Is it difficult to replace that music with some other music of my
choice? What software do I need to do that or will Windows Movie maker
be able to somehow do it for me? Thanks
yaro

it's easy if you don't mind the other sounds on the movies being removed
also.... but impossible if you want to just surgically remove the music
without losing family noises.

Well the family noises were removed anyway and replaced with that
silly music playing in two or three chapters :) The rest is actually
all right.
How do I do it than?
yaro

In a nutshell... Movie Maker has features to cut the video clips on the
timeline wherever you want.... then right click on the audio part of the
clip you want to silence and select mute. Put your new music on the
music/audio track.

Unfortunately having problems with importing the video files. I really
tried but it just won't see any video files on my DVD.
Windows explorer is definitely showing me 2 folders one is Audio_TS
and the other one is Video_TS and there are some
files inside the Video_TS folder but I cannot import them to Movie
Maker. Please help.

=====================================
The DVD files you need for editing are the
..VOB files. You'll find them in the VIDEO_TS
folder. Copy them to a folder on your hard
drive.

First...just try renaming one of the .VOB files to
..MPG and see if it will import into Movie Maker.
If the import works...drag the file to the timeline and
Save/Publish it in the .wmv or .avi format. Then...
re-import the new movie clip for editing purposes.

If that fails...rename the file back to .VOB and try
converting the file to .wmv or .avi using the following
free converter:

SUPER © Simplified
Universal Player Encoder & Renderer
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/SUPER
(the mirror download site is faster)

(FWIW...it's always a good practice to create a
System Restore point before installing new software)

After installing SUPER...open the program...
you will see two small circles in the upper left
corner of the screen...tick the TOP circle.

Now...drag/drop your .VOB files into the Active field.

Output Container...choose...wmv

Video Scale Size / No Change

Left click the Encode button.

Choose: Simple Profile / OK...

Wait...

(FWIW..I have better luck with video if I do not
try to multi-task while a file is being converted)

When the file is converted...you should find it in...
Program Files / eRightSoft / Super / OutPut.

Or...you can type...Ctrl+T...to open the Save
Window and choose a save folder.

Good luck...

Just changing the extensions didn't work. I'm wondering how do I get
an AVI file back to .VOB after converting
to put it back on the DVD?

Changing the extensions rarely works but it was
worth a try.

After you save the edited file in Movie Maker
as .wmv or .avi...you have to import the .wmv or
.avi file into a DVD Authoring program and it
renders the files back to the correct formats
when it burns the DVD.

If you do not have DVD Authoring software...try
the following freebie:

DVD Flick
http://www.dvdflick.net/

Be sure to read the Guide:
http://www.dvdflick.net/guide.php

If you have problems downloading DVD Flick...
try the following direct link:
http://tinyurl.com/lyovkx
or...
http://sourceforge.net/projects/dvdflick/files/dvdflick/dvdflick_setup_1.3.0.7.exe

Save the file to a folder on your hard drive and
install from there.

DVD Flick Tutorial

Burn Any PC Video Format into DVD
http://www.freevideoworkshop.com/dvdflicktutorial.htm

To create a basic Video DVD that should play in a free
standing DVD player...try the following...

Good luck.

First...read the DVD Flick Guide to familiarize yourself
with the program.

Open DVD Flick and insert a blank DVD in your burner.

If your computer's Autoplay window opens....just close it.

Click the Project Settings button and go to...Video /
Target format...residents of USA...choose...NTSC /
Accept.

Left click the Add title button and browse to your
Movie Clips and select the ones you want on the DVD.

You can arrange them by selecting one and then use
the Move Up and Move Down buttons.

Left click the Create DVD button / OK / Yes / Yes.

Wait while the DVD is created.

When the text "Finished Successfully" appears you
may close DVD Flick. Now you can eject your DVD
and play it in your DVD player.

At some point you may wish to purchase more
advanced software like Cyberlink, Nero, Roxio,
Ulead, etc...but at least this is a start.

Good luck.

Wouldn't it be a problem that it's only one chapter that I need to
edit?
Will the software add all the other chapters that I leave as VOBs
without editing them or do I need to import everything?
Thanks

No guarantees but what I would try is to edit
the sections of the DVD that I was not happy
with and save them in the .avi format.

Then I would rename all the remaining VOB
files...mpg. (You'll have to sort through the VOB
files and select the ones you want on the new
DVD)

Then I would try to import the combination of
..avi and .mpg files into DVD Flick to create a
DVD.

This is a complex project and the best bet would
be to experiment with it.

Good luck.

I successfully edited the piece of video I wanted to change.
In the end Ulead Studio created a vob file. Great, I thought.
But the story does not end here. It turned out that when I
was importing the video all I needed was one chapter.
So basically I was working on one chapter of one vob file.
Now I've got a new vob file which I would like to use only to
replace that one chapter in that particular vob file I imported
from. Unfortunately I can't find a way to do that. Anyone
who uses Ulead Studio any ideas? Thanks
yaro

Can't be done as the vob is a bunch of mpeg2 files wrapped up to make a max
..99gb file, ready for a dvd player to read. You need to take all the other
mpeg2 files used in that vob and then make an mpeg2 from your video, insert
in correct place and make a new vob. Now if your file size is now more than
..99gb you will ave two vobs, which could impact on other vobs that are ready
to go to the dvd.

Ulead Studio cut the mpg into 2 VOBs indeed, one large and one just a
minute long. I dont mind loosing
that 1 minute as long as it all works when put together. So far I
modified the name of that vob to be the same like the originating vob
and copied all the other pieces from the DVD-Rom to my hard drive.
I'll try to burn it tonight to see if it works. What worries me the
new vob is slightly bigger in size than the original one but lets see.
Thanks
yaro

you could make your vob again and use slighty higher compression to make the
vob smaller.
