I was given a viewsonic monitor that works great, but some of the
antiglare is missing from certain places, making those places
brighter. I refuse to believe the email I received from
viewsonic saying antiglare cannot be replaced, because I think
I even scratched some off myself.

Any suggestions?

Take it off. Take it _all_ off.

I'm sure that Viewsonic can replace the anti-glare. I'm equally sure that
by the time they had the monitor disassembled and the CRT returned to the
factory and run through the process again and the monitor reassembled you
could have replaced it with new several times over for the same money.

You might refuse to believe it, but they're right. There is no
good way to replace the antiglare alone - it would require
reprocessing the LCD panel itself, and on a one-piece basis
it's far more cost effective simply to replace the panel or
the whole monitor.

Why would being able to scratch it off yourself have any
bearing on the ease of replacing it? I can scratch the
"chrome" plating off the plastic trim parts of a lot of products,
for instance, and yet I don't expect to be able to fix that.
