Replacement plastic shells for jump drives?

Greetings all!

My wife recently busted the plastic shell on her PNY 256mb jump drive
(not entirely her fault, nor entirely the fault of the jump drive...the
port it was stuck in was way too tight). Is there any way to get any
kind of replacement shell for these things? It need not be a PNY
shell...just anything to allow us to keep using this jump drive. Has
anyone ever glued any plastic shells back together with super glue?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Chuck

I seriously doubt a replacement shell is available and if
there were any, it'd have to be for the same drive, as
different thumbdrives have different circuit board layout,
shape and size potential.

Super-glue should work on that as well as anything else,
just be sure you don't get the glue into the write-protect
switch or inside the USB connector.

Personally, I'd try JBWeld (or similar) 5 minute epoxy,
first making sure the pieces fit together properly and that
they're clean of any pocket lint, oil from fingers, etc,
then generously filling up the area where the loose pieces
would be set in place- again being careful not to let any
epoxy get into the switch or USB contact area. It might
help to practice on a scrape piece of material instead of
the thumbdrive if you're not familiar with the setting time
or viscosity of the epoxy since it is *permanent*.

The replacement shell would probably cost more than the drive if there
were such a thing. BF and Xmas are coming up so theres lots of sales
goingon.

Black Friday Compusa - if you feel like fighting the hordes

$10 after rebate 512 meg drive

40-30 rebate = 10

Centon brand. Their rebates are medium-slow to get.

Sandisk Circuit City - $14.99 after rebates BF
I think it says 25 rebate.

Probably a lot more too at Microcenter, Frys etc.

Glue alone may cost you 3-5 bucks.

For the purposes of currency exchange we're going to have to
consider you as living in a different country than the US.
Superglue is about $1 a 3-pack at any thrift store in
continental US.

Plus people tend to have a tube of superglue lying around and many
times epoxy so that is the cheapest way of fixing it.

I was hoping for a FREE after rebate jump drive and other things this
BF but unfortunately that didnt happen scanning all the ads.
