I need to replace the cd-r drive in my ~2.5 yo gateway athlon 1100 running
win2k. This will be the 2nd time I have replaced the drive, the latest
Cendyne crapped out after ~ 8 months. Oh well, only paid about $25 for it
what can you expect, right (actually, I bought it based on advice about it
being quality/mag reviews, not price)? So what IS a good cd burner? Are
there any latest developments in media capacity I should be sure the burner
can handle? I use the drive for ripping/burning music cd's & for data as
well.

TIA

Bill

Good DVD-RW drives can be had for little over $100 these days and they
can put 4.5Gb on one disk...which is sure nice for backups. They also
burn CD's. You can backup your DVD movies as well to protect against
damage/scratches that make render them unplayable.

LiteOn, Pioneer and Plextor are brands that are well respeted.

Best Regards,
