After getting a new computer with XP, I have just got a laptop. My old
computer with 2000 Pro on it has been destroyed but I still have the COA
sticker. Therefore I am trying to install 2000 on my laptop. The problem is,
I seem to have lost the disk. Is there any way I can get a replacement CD?

Windows 2000 is fast becoming obsolete. I would suggest
staying with Windows XP. Your new computer's warranty
is likely to become void if you change the operating system
to Windows 2000.

I agree with Carey. Why return to W2k at all? XP is 2k under the surface,
really, but has a lot more features (and will not go 'end of life' as
quickly). You can disable the annoying Fisher-Price/Teletubbies XP interface
very easily and you may never notice much of the difference.

Agreed. If you are going to go to an older version of Windows,
switch to NT4 so that you at least have the option of not
installing security holes like IE and OE.

Note that the having the COA for an OEM verson of Windows 2000 does not
permit you to transfer that copy to a new computer. However, Windows XP OEM
does have downgrade rights, so you should be entitled to install Windows
2000 on the new machine, provided that it was XP Pro on the new machine, and
not XP Home (which would not entitle you to install Windows 2000 Pro).

However, as all the others have asked, why? Time to embrace Windows XP.
It's really a considerable improvement over Windows 2000, especially since
the release of SP2.
