I have made friends with a lady who has an "old" pc she wants to sell
that has XP Pro installed on it. On investigation I found there is a
photocopied windows key sticker taped to the outside of the case and she
has no CD. She was horrified that the shop where she bought this pc new
would do that. She has now purchased a legitimate copy of XP Home which
I will help her install so that she can go ahead and sell the pc.

Could there be any difficulties arise in installing Home? I was planning
on putting the CD into the drive and rebooting and following on screen
choices, formatting the hard drive in the process but I have never had
anything to do with XP Pro and am wondering if there is something I need
to know?

Thanks for your time.

Can't see any problems with that, boot from CD and install, it should format
and install XP Home with no problems.

Wouldn't this be a genuine way for a small operator to mark a genuine
licensed PC?

No, it wouldn't. A licensed Systems Builder gets real Product Key
labels to affix to each unit he sells.
