I know the question has been asked before, I want to install a new larger
haddrive on my Dell but the Xp manual says I can only download the cd to one
computer.
When I install the new hard drive will it accept my copy of XP home? Do I
have to but a new copy of XP??

Good question. Your license for XP is good for one computer. If you replace
the hard disk on your computer and want to install XP on the new computer,
that's perfectly fine. You're installing on the same computer.

Just an add-in question: no statement has been made that his present
hard drive is defective thus it would appear to me that he should just
install the new, larger one as a second drive. Maxtor and most (if not
all) hard drive manufacturers provide instructions and utility programs
enabling the transfer of the Windows Operating System to the newer
larger drive if that is desired. Apparently that is what most want to do.

If your computer came with a bootable recovery CD then install the HDD and
boot with this CD. For instance. My Toshiba came with a Recovery CD in
which XP is on this and it will re-format and reload XP for me.
