Hi,

Most new hard drives include a copy tool, if not in the box then easily
downloadable from their web site. This is generally the easiest way.

Rick gave good advice, but be very wary of the Maxtor drive copying
utility.. at a personal level, I think that it is a POS (not a reference to
Point-Of-Sale, btw)..

Make sure you start to back up your important files if you haven't done so
already. That "on it's last legs" drive could die at anytime.

Image it. If you don't have imaging software and your new drive doesn't
come with one, get the trial version of Acronis True Image.

Find another machine to host both drives, install the imaging trial on it,
shut down and install the drives, then run the imaging software. You'll be
done in an hour or so.

Be sure to set jumpers properly.

Lex,
If you don't want to spend any money, you might want to think about getting
a new drive and installing an OS on it. After that you can set your 'old'
hard drive as a slave and just copy the necessary information from there to
the 'new' drive.
