I'm wanting to replace my current crappy machine running Win2k Server and
Exchange 2k with a better machine. But I can't get past the DCPROMO stage.

When I want to add another DC in the Win2k domain, "The specified domain
does not exist or could not be contacted".

Yes it does exist. Yes it does run AD. Yes the machines can ping each other.

AAAAUUUUUGGGHHH!

That error indicates that you have a DNS problem. Is the server pointing to
a DNS server that holds the zone for your AD domain? Verify that the zone
has the SRV records for the domain controllers in your domain. If they do
not exist then you should verify that your DCs are pointing to the correct
DNS server and restart netlogon to force them to re-register. You should
also run ipconfig /registerdns so that the host record is registered. After
you have verified these things then you should run ipconfig /flushdns on the
server that you are trying to promote and then attempt to promote it again.
