I am using Excel 2000 SP3

I have a workbook with two sheets, one sheet of 600 lines where the
identifier
in one column (a) is a number, the
other sheet shows the numbers with the corresponding name.
The number is in column (a) and the name in column (b)
I need to replace each number in the first sheet with the
name against the corresponding number in the second sheet.

Is there some way of doing this?

Please advise

Hi Daniel
one way:
- insert a helper column in sheet 1 (column B)
- enter the following formula in B1
=VLOOKUP(A1,'sheet2'!$A$1:$B$1000,2,0)
- copy down for all row
- select column B and copy column B (CTRL+C)
- select column A and goto 'Edit - Paste Special' and insert the
contents as 'Values'
- Delete the helper column B
