our computer has a very bad problem, it will suddenly
restart itself, and sometimes will do it over and over.
it happens at different points, like sometimes before it
even gets to the welcome screen, and each time it shows a
blue screen with a lot of writing on it before it shuts
off... we have XP home. once it told us it had
recovered from a critical error, and it said that there
was an error with our mcaffee firewall, so i uninstalled
it, but i am still getting the error.

any suggestions?

Well, one question I have is have you installed any new
hardware, or even programs? I found I had that problem
after I had installed my Lexmark three in one printer. I
fixed the problem by visiting the lexmark website and
downloading the newest driver.

It sounds like you are getting a stop error. It would
say something like STOP: 0x0000005e or something
similar. If this is the case write down the stop error
and any messages that are on the screen and then search
technet's knowledgebase for that stop error. If it
restarts too fast to write the info down then you will
have to get into windows somehow and go into system
properties in control panel, click on the advanced tab,
then click on the startup and recovery - settings
button. Then uncheck the restart automatically box.
Then you can view what it says on the blue screen for as
long as you want. Hope this helps.
