Repeated requirement to log in while visiting a web site

Why is it that all of the sudden now I am being prompted
to log in every time I click on a link at some of the web
sites I have used without any trouble in the past? I have
contacted these web sites and asked the question and they
all say that they have not changed a thing and that I
should check my browser. And come to think of it, the only
thing that has changed with my machine is that I
downloaded some more of the many Microsoft patches and
updates when that worm was going around. Is there any way
that the patches and updates could have changed something
in my browser that would cause me to continually have to
log in when visiting a web site? I certainly would
appreciate any help I can get on this.

What patches and fixes did you install from Microsoft.com? All installs from
Microsoft have a support page where you can learn about what it is
specifically for. If you go to your add/remove programs, all installed QFE's
should be listed. Then go to http://support.microsoft.com and search for the
Q###### you see in add/remove. It will say Internet Explorer Q828750 for
example, as that was IE's last cumilitave patch. (you can also go to
Help>About, in your IE menu bar, and see what fixes (QFEs) you have
installed. (You also may have Windows XP Updates installed, if that is your
operating system.)
You can try adding these sites that you frequent to your Trusted Sites Zone.
(Go to Tools>Internet Options>Security Tab. Click on Trusted Sites icon, and
then the button that says "Sites". From there you can add those sites you
trust and try visiting these sites again. I am assuming you mean https://
sites as you mentioned logging in, so I assume before you may have been
logged in off cached information.

I hope some of this helps..
