Repeated booting problem

What causes a winxp sp2 desktop on bootup to keep rebooting. Also
when
running windows, it will boot automatically - powers off and one...
off and on. The system only has basic software installed like office
and only DUN. Is it a virus or something?

It's annoying when you are trying to burn a data cd wasting discs and
getting worse.

Help.

The most likely suspects are power supply failing, poorly seated or
failing memory, or hardware failure - including poorly seated components,
bad connections, or corrupted drivers. Troubleshoot by checking the simple
things first (connections). It sounds a lot like a failing power supply.

Put your computer into the bios screen on boot-up and let it sit there. If
it reboots on its own (my Gateway 5014 does), the problem is in the hardware
and not Windows or drivers.
