When developing slides is it possible to enter text in one text box and have
that text appear in boxes on other slides? If so how is this done?

Please tell us what version of PowerPoint you are using. The easiest way to
do what you want is through Master slides. If you have a master slide,
anything that you put on that slide will appear on all slides (or at least
all slides that follow that master).

Sorry should have mentioned this first time around...2003.
I did not think of using the master slide......are there any other ways?

It might help if you tell us what you want to do in more detail. In 2003,
you can have multiple masters so you could have some slides use the master
with the text on it and other slides use a different master. As for other
ways, there is copy and paste (not automatic) and probably some VBA
solutions. If you give us more details (including why master slides won't
work), we might be able to think of a better answer.

I have a customer who wishes to receive progress reports in PP. They require
the date on 3 slides and at the moment I have to enter it 3 times (errors do
happen). I was looking for a solution that 1) on opening the file prompted
for the 'reporting date' which is entered once, and 2) wrote the value to the
3 places it is used.

Well, I think your simplest solution is going to be to use master
slides. You could set up a master for those three slides and adjust the
master once to affect those three slides. Of course, that is not exactly
what you wanted. Other solutions would probably involve some sort of
add-in that checks to see if that particular presentation is being
opened and then applies the date to the right places. One more thought,
depending on the type of reporting you need, is that you might be able
to automate more of the process by creating your report in something
else and using some sort of tool to merge it into PowerPoint (e.g.
http://www.pptools.com/merge/index.html).

I think you could also use Insert | Date and Time on a slide master and set
it to update automatically. The date would then change when the file is
opened.

Thanks to David, Echo and Steve.
I'll investigate a little further.

In that case, you wouldn't check the "update automatically" box.

If you always want the current date on the slide, yep.

But if you want the date *as of the date the report was created* then
nope.
