I didn't get an applicable answer. Maybe someone can think of something.

I have a few programs where I have assigned a shortcut key combo.

It works, but on some of the programs there appears to be a delay when I use
the shortcut. It sometimes takes 10 seconds before the program boots when I
use the keystrokes shortcut.

Why? How can I speed things up??

But did you actually *try* the suggestions, even though you strongly believe they were not "applicable"?

The application varies.

Is it always the same application or can the application with which this

No I didn't try it because the suggestions indicated the web-site resource.
When I checked there it did not seem applicable to my situation so I didn't
want to mess things up.

The reference that you listed was:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=819017

That didn't seem to deal with my problem. Am I missing something??

Not really sure. If you use special drivers for your keyboard, you may need
to update them. If your system shares memory with the graphics card, the
system may be busy at various times when you try to execute an application,
hence the delay.

Mel,

That article relates to delays.

Disabling WIA will not "mess things up".

It is a simple matter to re-enable WIA, if that does not resolve the issue.

OK. I tried it. The service status was already set to Stopped. I then
changed the startup type to disabled.

I'll see if that helps!
