Repeat of two requests

This group is either unfriendly or my requests must be stumping what I
otherwise thought were some pretty resourceful people here. In the past week
I've posted two requests and not received any replies. So here goes again --
maybe somebody here has the pearls of wisdom I seek.

1. CSS to HTML convertor. For archiving purposes, I store web pages but want
to keep them in as simple a format as possible. Is such a thing possible and
is there a program that will do this for me?

2. NVu. I'm using the Windows version but can't find anyway to hyperlink to
an anchor WITHIN the same document in WYSIWYG mode. The dialog box under
Insert | Lind refers to a pop up list of named anchors, but I can't find it.

Cheers

I'm not quite sure what your wanting here. Is the CSS in a seperate .css
file?

To be honest, I'm not aware of any program thats capable of doing this for
you, except perhaps, a multiple file find/replace program.

To link to an achor in the same page, you just use the syntax;

<.a href="#anchorname".>

Without the . obviously. Not sure bout Wysiwyg app's though as I tend to
avoid them like the plague they are <gg>

Question 2

Which version of Nvu do you use? I use version 0.17 ant it works (The about
box does not show the proper version by the way).
To link to an anchor, you first must define an anchor, with the anchor
button.
Then you select the text (or other object) you want to link to the angor and
choose link. Then ou can either
1) select the right anchor (those starting with #) from the pull-down menu)
2) type thme yourelf.

Question 1

If I want to have a single file using css styles, I often copy the css files
into the document. Not the answer you're looking for I know. But I dont have
a solotion that realy fits your question.

We are definitely not unfriendly. Only to each other. :)
1. All I could find was this online converter

2. You could email the developers if you don't get a response to this here

Hey! Does anyone else in this group out there use NVu?
Don't give up on us yet.

Could it be that there might not be such a (freeware) program?
Not to forget, not all programs worldwide are known by a member of this
group. And your requests are quite special. Perhaps you should try a
group that is more specialised in the kind of program you are looking
for - or, in the case of a problem with a specific program, that
programs forum.

I don't, but I almost do.

I'm eager to try the next release.

I gave up on those editors. I use notepad and trial and error. Mostly
error. :)

I used to use Notepad, until I wrote Mercury Editor..... now I use a
combination of Mercury Editor and ACF Notes (replaced Notepad with it).

I've tried twice, (first time wouldn't even install) but haven't been able
to make it go; perhaps it's me, but a help file might help, and I can't be
dialling up a website each time I get stuck - I'd be doing little else

Perhaps when it's finished

If you want to see unfriendly, try responding by saying

"Don't know any freeware, but there's this pay/share/ad/nagware"

BTDT never again ;0)

That's almost as bad as asking for it.

In Nvu internal hyperlinks are called anchors and you can get to them
from the Insert menu. Put your cursor when you want to eventually jump
to on the page and choose Insert, Named Anchor... and give it a name
(let's say we call it text). Then go back up on the page and put type
in Go to text. Highlight Go to text and click Insert, Link... In the
Link Properties box type in #text for the name of the Named Anchor.
Save your page, open it in a browser and see if it works. Worked for
me. The trick is that you have to know the #(name of anchor) syntax for
the link. Nvu appears to be based on Composer and in this regard is not
as easy to use as composer is, IMHO. In Composer at the point of link
to the Named Anchor there is a drop down box and a choice (in my example
above) for #text. That is more intuitive that knowing that you have to
type in #text in the box. Hope this is helpful.

Cousin <<ML>> ....

I think the purpose of CSS IS to simplify HTML documents
by separating style from content ....

In plain-vanilla HTML style attributes
are distributed throughout the entire document,
which makes it more difficult to maintain consistency
and making changes more difficult to track down
and edit ....

CSS style attributes are collected all in one place,
either embedded in the HTML document itself
or as a separate file, thus making changes
easier to track down and edit ....

Using a single CSS file, style attributes
for ANY number of HTML documents can be changed
in one fell swoop just by editing ONE CSS file,
NOT each of the individual documents themselves ....
