Perhaps because you have left the original installation file on your
desktop?

Windows Defender does not create a desktop icon, nor does it display an icon
in the notification area unless user interaction is needed.

It is listed in start, all programs, as Windows Defender.

If you wish to have a desktop icon, simply right click Windows Defender in
the start menu, and choose "create shortcut." This will place the shortcut
in the start menu, and you can then drag it to the desktop, and rename it to
get rid of the (2), etc.

If your download was made before February 22nd , and you are installing on a
non-English version of Windows, I would strongly urge you to uninstall
Windows Defender, make a new download, and reinstall it. The installation
process has been changed to work better on non-English Windows installs.
