Repeat character

Hi,

I think I read some time ago a tip to automatically repeat a character (like
.. or -, for example) till the end of line, so I could write something like
"This line will be completed by dashes ------------------" and I'd only have
to type one dash.

I'm not asking about "leading characters" (which use tab stops, and can be
repeated till the defined tab stop). It's something to do with forms, maybe.
Or maybe not, I really can´t remember, and this is really puzzling me.

So if anyone knows what I'm talking about, your help will be much
appreciated.

Thanks in advance and
Best Regards,
MrDoc

Hi Doc,
The only bells that this rings with me is the ability to "draw" a border
from margin to margin by starting a new paragraph and typing (say) three
hyphens (-), then press ENTER. This will draw a single thin border. You
can get different style borders by substituting the hypens with characters
such as equals sign (=), underscore (_), hash (#), asterisk (*) and tilde
(~).

To enable this to happen, you must have the following setting:
Tools > AutoCorrect Options... > AutoFormat As You Type > Apply as you
type
Check the Border lines option.

I don't know of any way to repeat characters automatically from the current
insertion point to the right margin. Maybe using VBA (but I will leave that
to the experts).

Cheers,
Lyn.

Word doesn't allow as much latitude in selecting the fill character, but
what you're talking about is a "leader." In the Format | Tabs dialog, you
can select a period, underline, or hyphen leader.

I remember this too, but it wasn't in Word. It was in Lotus.
Ring a bell? I'm pretty sure it's not an option in Word,
although you could probably write an incredibly strange macro
to insert the characters (which would then cause problems if
you lengthened or shortened whatever occupied on the rest of
the line.

Thank you very much Lyn, Suzanne and Mark, for helping. It's not really a
"leader" I'm looking for, neither the nice underlinings, and it's quite
possible that I'm confused about something I read a long time ago. If expert
Word users haven't heard about it, than it most likely doesn´t exist. Maybe
the tip had something to do with forms and I forgot where and how to use it.
I even reread a lot of old magazines, where I seemed to remind the tip had
been read, and found nothing at all. Anyway, thank you again for your time
and help.

Best Regards,
MrDoc

Sorry, I read only as much of your message as fit in my preview window and
didn't see that you'd specifically set it was not tab leaders you were
after!

Hi Suzanne,
Thanks a lot anyway. Maybe one of these days I'll remember what I'm after,
because right now I only know I once read a tip so and so... I hope it'll
come to mind sooner rather than later, because it's really annoying trying
to remember what all was about without success, if you know what I mean.
By the way, I've been reading some articles of yours, they're very good and
I´d like to thank you for that help as well.

Best Regards,
Mario Domingos

Well, I'm glad I've been able to help sometimes even if I wasn't helpful
this time. <g>
